C O P Y. To Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} from RHC.{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer} RHC.{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer}7/MB.5.4.35. Cadillac Strip Condition after 20,000 Miles. ENGINE UNIT. Cylinders. Assuming the original bore diameter to have been 3.000", the amount of wear varies from .0005 to .002" at the skirt up to a maximum of .0055 at the drown, the wear being slight more fore and aft than in the transverse direction. There is little variation between opposite cylinders in each bank. 8 Exhaust valves were badly burnt on the seating. Pistons. The pistons are in good condition, but the anodic treatment appears to have worn through at the top and bottom of the thrust faces and in the gudgeon pin bores. Main Bearings. The condition of the bearing surfaces is good. The diametral clearance varies from .0027 to .0073, the wear increasing progressively from the ends to the centre bearing. Connecting Rods. Measurements of the crankpins and big end bearings indicate a diametral clearance of .007 - .008 in each case, but the general condition of the bearings is reasonable in view of the mileage covered. Crankshaft. All bearing surfaces are in good condition with a maximum wear of .001. | ||
