To DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}/EV.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} From Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/AJL. c.c. to Hn.{F. C. Honeyman - Retail orders} X8992 Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/AJL.1/MJ.15.12.30. SPARE WHEEL COVER - 27-EX. We have had to remove the aluminium spare wheel cover from 27-EX. because - (1) The rivets holding the fasteners to the two halves of the cover had pulled through the aluminium in some cases (no stiffening pieces where rivetted). (2) The cover rubbed against the petrol tank badly, damaging the tank and the cover. (3) The cover rubbed against the rear cross-member damaging the cover. (4) The cover also fouled the side members, damaging the cover and the cowling on the side members. It was difficult to remove the wheel and cover complete without further damaging it; impossible single handed. It was also found necessary to deflate the tyre before the second half of the cover could be removed. it does not appear that this type of cover is a practical job. The clearances round the wheel when in position are insufficient and vary greatly from wheel to wheel, the limit to which wheels are made are fairly large and consequently the clearances between wheel and rear cross-member and petrol tank vary considerably from wheel to wheel. There are several other jobs which require attention. Will you please let us know if they are to be done here or by Park Wards. They are:- (1) Sliding roof leaks. Requires clamping screw and plate fitting to N.S. (O.S.only fitted). (2) Water leaks into tool kit. (3) The windscreen wiper is not sufficiently powerful to operate both blades.
