| S/W Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}..from C. 262 C6/C23.9.41 I had a call yesterday from E.R.Hall in regard to his account, which has been hanging about for a long long time. It appears to have been delayed because he was in the Army and went abroad, he was then ill, and is now back and has been discharged. He is working with some Company making prismatic compasses. The only item which is really subject to disagreement is one of £103 which we charged him for taking experimental parts off his T.T.chassis and substituting standard parts. He says that the arrangement he made with you in the first instance was that you would be willing to forego any charge for putting on the standard parts in consideration of your receiving from him certain special parts, such as the cylinder head and a few other things. He says that whilst this work was going on he visited the Works, saw Hd.{Mr Hayward/Mr Huddy}, and understood that certain things, such as the radiator shell, accelerator pedal, and one or two other small items, would be scrapped, and therefore he said he would like to have these for sentimental reasons, to keep as momentos, and that he would collect them; whereupon you withdrew the offer of bearing the labour charges and cost of replacing the standard parts, because you told him the agreement had been broken by him and therefore was cancelled. Soon after that the War broke out and he was ordered abroad, but the Manager of the Metropolis Garage wrote on his behalf, only to get the same reply. Mr. Hall said that he felt very hurt about this, after the way you and he had worked together on his various jobs, and he thought it was unkind. He said he was quite willing to pay the cost of the replacement parts, and as regards the parts that he said he would like, he would be quite willing to forego these if they were of any use to you from an experimental point of view; but he had understood they were not. However, he said that so far as the cost is concerned, if you say he has got to pay he will do so. I told him that I knew nothing about it, of course, but would write to you. The other point is in respect of the two engines - a Phantom III and a 25/30 h.p. These have not been used and he is willing to accept our offer of taking them back and crediting him with the special figure we charged him for them. I told him that we had somehow or other received a request for a larger sum than he had paid for the engines and we could not understand why he wished to make a profit on such a transaction.
