COPY. 41487 E.1/HP. 27th October, 1938. Messrs. S.U. Co., East Works, Bordesley Green Rd., Adderley Park, Birmingham. For the attention of Mr. Skinner. Dear Mr. Skinner, When you wrote to me before about an improved floatchamber I did not realise that this was intended for use in connection with our standard Bentley carburetter. I have now, however, looked into the question and would like to raise a number of points, as follows, suggesting modifications which are embodied in the attached blueprint Lec. 4140. (1) The scrubbing action and side thrust of the float on the end of the needle is brought to a minimum at the moment of closure. (2) The short control of the needle does not seem altogether desirable and on Lec. 4140 we show a longer bush which of course should be provided with adequate clearance. (3) For a pivoted float we think that a wider bearing is desirable on the spindle controlling the float movement and this is shown on the plan view of Lec. 4140. (4) The section of the floatchamber seems somewhat attenuated where the fixing screws for the lid{A. J. Lidsey} are tapped in. Actually this is not shown improved on our blueprint. It would demand a slightly larger pitch circle for the holes and slightly larger floatchamber, since the space through which the float is withdrawn cannot be encroached upon. | ||
