Rm {William Robotham - Chief Engineer} /FJH {Fred J. Hardy - Chief Dev. Engineer} and Rm {William Robotham - Chief Engineer} /FJTH. from Rm. {William Robotham - Chief Engineer} 1282 Rm. {William Robotham - Chief Engineer} 8/ML.29.5.40. We have received a special request from Hs. {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} that people who are within the reach of the normal 'bus facilities should use them and not their own private cars, thereby conserving petrol. In view of this fact, if anybody lives within what in our opinion, is reasonable reach of the 'bus services, we do not propose to endorse an application for more than 15% of the mileage to and from Belper. The 15% is agreed to, owing to the national emergency, which makes it necessary for some people to go to Belper at times when the 'bus services are not available.
