Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} x7520. To Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} from Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} re Controllable Shock Dampers. Copy to Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} Sg{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}8/E3.3.32 x7520 x83301 You will remember that at our last conference PN{Mr Northey} spoke in very high terms of the controllable shock absorbers which you had fitted up on one of the experimental cars, the number of which I think was 19-G-4. I asked him to write me a memo. on the subject which I could send to R.{Sir Henry Royce} This was carried out and I sent it to R.{Sir Henry Royce} with a covering memo. explaining how important it was and that we were spending large sums of money in dealing with springing complaints etc.. I have received a cable from him which reads as follows: SHOCK DAMPERS UNDERSTOOD SANCTION GIVEN FOR LEAK CONTROL TEMPORARILY IF FOUND EFFECTIVE BUT HARDY AND WORKS QUICKLY PRODUCE SINGLE VALVE DAMPER OIL PRESSURE CONTROL BECAUSE NO FAITH IN CABLE OR ELECTRICAL OR LEAK. This looks as if he were prepared to agree to the scheme you have fitted up on 19-G-4 and it would seem desirable to fit it to 19-EX as suggested in your memo. received to-day so that it could be standardised. I am not sure what is really meant by the reference to Hardy and Works quickly producing a single valve damper oil pressure control but assume this is some other scheme. I should be glad to hear from you as to what you propose to do. Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} RECEIVED | ||
