C O P Y. THOMAS WHITTLE & SONS LTD. Rose & Crown Street, WARRINGTON. April 14th. 1915. Our ref. AH/FF. 14415. Your ref. Wor {Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} /Mcr2/L12415. Messrs Rolls-Royce Ltd., Derby. Dear Sirs, We are in receipt of your favour of the 12th inst., and in reply beg to state that our Whittle Belting is fitted with raw hide centres from the 3/4" size upwards. The object of this raw hide is to take the greater share of the load, and prevent the belt from stretching unduly, as the raw hide has a much greater tensile strength than leather. The smaller size belts are not usually fitted with raw hide as there is no advantage gained by the insertion of it. We have fitted the 5/8" size with raw hide when requested by special customers, but we do not recommend it over our standard pattern as the breaking strain is not increased. Any further information we shall be pleased to give you. Yours faithfully, THOMAS WHITTLE & SONS LIMITED. (Sgd) A. {Mr Adams} Horobin. Handwritten notes: EC 19b 9 Original retd to L 15415 | ||
