Valves and Fittings (Continued).

The Cast Iron Tappets, produced by R.R. foundry, are in good condition and show little signs of wear on the working surfaces. Brinell before test 530.

Camshaft and Bearings.

The above were assembled complete to LOP.EW.925, incorporating :-

EW.918. Camshaft in S/EN. material with 114° Cams.

Tappet Guides for Balancing Cam in BZ/PC. to EW.944.

The general condition of the Camshaft is satisfactory, no excessive wear being noted.

The Cam Bearings and Tappet Guides for Balancing Cam are also in good condition.

Pistons.

Complete to LOP.E.60701.

General condition good; wear on rings and in grooves normal. Piston No. 3 badly damaged by the exhaust valve failure.

Engine Gears.

Incorporating the following :-

Crank Pinion in unhardened S/ZNX. material to Ex.27115. Helix Angle 32°49½'.

Dynamo Pinion in unhardened S/ZNX. material to Ex.27042. Helix Angle 32°49½'.

Cam Wheel in Fabroil material produced by Messrs. B.T.H. to EW.919. This gear was .005 small on chordal thickness before test.

The Backlash of the Engine Gears before and after test was as follows :-

Crank Pinion and Cam Wheel before test - .0035.
" " " " after " - .006.
Dynamo " " " " before " - .003.
" " " " after " - .0045.
