x3908 RE. FUMES IN BODIES.

With reference to memo from Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} reference Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}7/LG5.4.21. I take it that the question of design will receive your attention and that this matter will be taken up experimentally in the usual way and with the utmost speed, as we are certainly up against it so far as we are receiving complaints from customers.

With reference to the fittings with which [Handwritten] He has [/Handwritten] [Strikethrough]you have[/strikethrough] supplied us for Mr. Claremont's car, we have now received a report from Archer that Mr. Claremonts is a bad case of fumes in body, and Archer does not consider that any improvement can be made in the body to avoid [Handwritten] such [/Handwritten] [Strikethrough]these[/strikethrough]. The floor-boards are a good fit and covered with felt and carpet, and the scuttle is amply ventilated.

Archer confirms Mr. Claremont's complaint that the fumes are from the breather and are blown into the body by the fan through the pedal slots.

After fitting the special fitting supplied by [Handwritten] Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} [/Handwritten] [Strikethrough]you[/strikethrough], Archer took the car out on the road and reports a distinct improvement. Unfortunately Mr. Archer was not able to get Mr. Claremont to try the car as he was otherwise engaged, but he satisfied the driver that a distinct improvement had been effected. The driver is going to get Mr.Claremont to try the car and report as soon as possible.

Mr. Archer will be in Manchester for the remainder of this week and will call again before returning to the works to get Mr. Claremont's opinion if possible.
