X4290 DYNAMO PARTICULARS NOT IN REGULAR RECORDS

The following extra particulars of dynamos have been found, in the course of examination and test.

R. {Sir Henry Royce} Bosch, Type Lv
(1) Weight of complete machine without control unit 25.85 lbs.
(2) Resistance of winding put in series with field by regulator 20 W. This is wound on one of the field poles.
(3) The armature has tunnelled slots, which are axial and hand-wound.
(4) The field poles are chamfered, but only longitudinally, not helically.
(5) The machine is fitted with cone ball bearings.
(6) Thickness of armature stampings including insulation .021". Thickness of end stampings (one at each end) .03".
(7) The commutator is well undercut.
(8) The brushes, as nearly as can be ascertained by marking the armature poles, when supplied with current through two commutator segments 90° apart, are in the no-load neutral position.

Scintilla.
(1) Weight of complete machine without control unit 26.8 lbs.
(2) The poles are chamfered in a slightly helical direction.
(3) The position of the brushes as tested to be substantially in the no load neutral position. In other test, the brushes were lifted (armature in position) and an intermittent current was sent through the field coils.
