The Hoyt Metal Company of Great Britain, Limited,

LONDON. S.W.15.

For the attention of Mr. H.C. Tuck.

Dear Sirs,

Thank you for your letter of December 3rd. There is no doubt that adhesion was largely responsible for the failure of the Eleven "H" metal.

We took some of the bearings in an unmachined condition, and it was quite clear that bonding was not satisfactory. We can hardly believe that the change from .25. to .15 carbon will overcome this trouble.

We are running the Z.3, and, so far, this is giving better results.

With regard to Satco, we accept that this is purely an experiment. If, in your opinion, the chances of it succeeding are remote, then we do not want to waste our energies on running a test; we were interested in it because its analysis closely resembles material with which the Americans have been having a considerable amount of success.

The position remains that we are anxious to try out anything which there is reason to believe will prove superior to our existing white metal.

Yours faithfully,

For ROLLS-ROYCE LTD.
