WEEK-END REPORT ON 29.G.6.

Mileage 328
Speedometer recording reads 10% fast with 6.50 X 19 wheels.

Petrol Consumption with average speed carefully checked.

164 miles at 49.5 m.p.h. average gives 11.43 m.p.g.
164 " " 41.5 m.p.h. " " 12.9 m.p.g.

This petrol consumption is terrible considering the test was on large wheels, i.e. 6½ x 19.

Engine.
The timing gears are hopeless and should be inspected, although oil is getting to the gears, they have gone noisy since the car was last in the fitting shop.

Rear engine mounting was fitted with Da{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}'s latest scheme for taking the torque. This has the effect of making the engine very rough and brings very bad body booms, 60 m.p.h. forward and retard being the worst periods.

No movement felt on the gear lever, which is now fully isolated, but this was to be expected with the restricted engine movement.

Gear Box.
A new experience was met with here. After engaging reverse and coming into neutral, the reverse gear, or part of the selector mechanism cushioned against possibly trapped oil in the box and shot the gear back into reverse, leaving the gear lever in neutral. This, of course, necessitated removing the gear box cover and levering the selector back to position, a point requiring attention.

Brakes.
Excellent, no squeaks.

Suspension
front seat ride Very good indeed.

Electrical.
The new RR headlamp with reduced dipping were excellent to drive behind, but several oncoming drivers objected to the beam.
