I have received from Chateauroux your telegram :-

"Before 6-B-IV returns please finalize comparison small and large bore induction pipes, which should include maximum speed comparisons and consumptions, also relative idling merit".

I have made arrangements with er. to borrow a large induction pipe complete with carburetters as 6-B-IV has got a small induction pipe and small carburetter. The test will be carried out when the engine has been re-erected.

I have received your memo. He/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}31/Kw.23.9.36.

The condition of the bearings gives no reason for alarm with regard to failure, but the condition of the crank shaft journals looseness of main bearings in their respective housings, the rough period of the engine between 1500-2500 due to out of balance of the crankshaft which has been cured by balancing up, is of such importance with regard to investigation, there is a host of valuable data. In my opinion the car should return as soon as possible.

The following is the data we have gained by a thorough examination of the bearings, housing, crankshaft, etc. and is a guide to the facts already mentioned.

(1) Crankshaft Journals.

The journals Nos. 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, have worn more than the Hall's metal bearings, the main wear having taken place nearest the oil supply hole in the journal trailing off in the direction of rotation.

The following are the dimensions taken.
