For the attention of W.C.Devereux, Esq.,

Dear Sirs,

Some time ago you were good enough to come over to discuss with our Mr. Poppe and the undersigned the question of aluminium alloy stampings for use in commercial vehicle work. During this discussion the question of bearing material was discussed, and in view of the success which the Leyland Company had apparently obtained from an aluminium alloy rod operating directly on to the crankshaft, we have again returned to this subject.

We should be glad if you would let us have your views upon the possibility of using an aluminium alloy in place of a copper lead lining carried in a steel shell. At the present time we are hardening our crankshaft to a Brinell of 500/550, and we think that we might, with interest, carry out a series of tests with aluminium alloys either in the "as cast" or forged state.

We are enclosing you herewith a blue print of our standard big end bearing which is used in our 4-cylinder C.I. engine of 117.47 mm/bore, and 150 mm/stroke, and we await your comments with interest.

Yours faithfully,
DENNIS BROTHERS LIMITED.
