SPECTRECodename for Phantom III.

The following are the points that require tests and results :-

(1) The front suspension has not as yet remained intact. This should be cleared up first. The ball races for the progressive rating of the front springs have broken. These are being made ---- Give the car a test over the route we took for springing.

(2) The torsion rod at the rear is to have rubber bearings. Steadman is arranging this.

When completed springing tests should be carried out in exactly the same manner that we did -

(1) Get the value of the roll rod with regard to axle steadiness.

(2) With the extra friction of the roll rod, the rear hydraulic load should be dropped to 40 lbs. minimum. I have arranged with W. Bell to do this.

(3) Try the roll rod and dampers with the lesser poundage.

(4) If the results are not entirely satisfactory, we should like to try Ferodo braid between the spring leaves.

The springing of the front of the car. We should like to get a scheme to cut down the control by 50% with the roll rod fitted, also get Steadman to get a scheme for rubber bearings for the front control rod.

Gearbox.

The chunking in the drive is mostly due to the 2nd gear synchromesh. We should like to try the box with this cut out if possible, or any other tests to eliminate the chunking.
