HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} } FROM R.{Sir Henry Royce} DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} } (At Le CanadelHenry Royce's French residence.) X457 R3/M573.32. Sent from WW. 7.3.32. Copy to - SG.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} WOR.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} X.457 X.433 STEERING JOGGLES - P.2., J.3., & J.1. It would seem quite definitely settled that a spring shackle should be fitted in our case at the rear of the front spring. The rating of the spring controlling it should be fitted in our case at the rear of the front spring. The rating of the spring controlling it should be found by the Expl. Dept., but seems to be of the order of 1000 lbs. per. in. I agree to this, and expect DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} will be sending me the designs of a permanent fitting. My impression is that our rear end is well carried out and it is a pity to make it a less good job, and more costly, unless we are sure this device is really of definite benefit.
