- 17 - (d) Rebound devices and arrangements for increasing spring internal friction. A number of Continental cars have fitted rebound leaves to their springs; notably Alfa-Romeo, Lancia and Fiat. A rebound leaf is a leaf fitted on the top of the main leaf and given the same curvature as the rest of the spring leaves. Normally, when the spring extends on rebound, the bottom leaves come away from the top leaf which in consequence receives little support. Rebound leaves, however, prevent this occuring. It is clear that in order to keep them in position, rebound leaves require a clip each. Clips unless specifically designed to avoid the trouble, increase the internal friction of a spring. The Fiat rebound leaf clip has a roller and should therefore produce the minimum resistance to free spring motion. FIAT Messrs. Woodhead have evolved a clip from which they claim great things and amongst others, immunity from any increase in internal friction. This claim certainly seems to be substantiated to a certain extent when the spring is new. WOODHEAD CLIP contd. | ||
