PROGRAMME OF TEST BED WORK.

NO.30 BED.

B.80 No.3 UNIT.

Having established that there is more difference in intensity of detonations through bad distribution rather than variations in the cylinder heads, good distribution should be obtained before any further detonation tests are made.

Try out possibilities of making good distribution without scrapping the pipe, as there are no more induction systems available at present.

Commence an endurance run of 50 hrs. under similar conditions as run on B.60 (memo Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Swdl.{Len H. Swindell}2/MH.{M. Huckerby}24.11.38).

WRAITH III NO.4 UNIT.

Comparisons of the following pistons now in progress with regard to

(a) Heat flow to oil.
(b) Power maximum and non detonating on Redline fuel, giving ignition advance.

Pistons.

(a) Standard Wraith split skirt.
(b) Standard flat top Aerolite.
(c) .2 Raised crown "
(d) .330 " "
(e) .470 " "

It is likely that the detonation difference between pistons will be very small, therefore pistons should in same condition and cleaned of carbon before fitting.
