Engine Mountings.

Replying to your memo Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}10/E.16.3.34, we instructed a scheme for trying floating power on 19.5.33 but unfortunately as this was applied to a Peregrine it was washed out by the Peregrines being put into store.

The matter was subsequently discussed at conferences in Derby on the occasions of your visits, and I believe it was then decided that the Experimental Department should apply this scheme to another car which I think was the Bentley, as it was not desired to utilise any of the Peregrines for this purpose at the time.

We are at the moment working on a rear rubber engine mounting for the Bentley and we are combining this with a diagonal mounting for the front. This is being got ready for the next 10,000 miles Bentley and therefore should be soon available for test. At the same time we have schemed the engine mounting for the SpectreCodename for Phantom III on these lines.

I agree that it is regrettable that this experiment has not been made before but I think it has been delayed due to change of policy rather than through lack of instructions.

In addition to trying the diagonal mounting we are also arranging on both the Bentley and the SpectreCodename for Phantom III to be able to reproduce the mounting used on the Essex Terraplane which is not strictly of the diagonal type.

E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer}
