SOLO NO. LL ON DICTAPHONE NO. B. 3rd May 1911 R11/D3611 C.J. Bevel V Worm Gear. It is quite evident that the construction and the physical shape of the worm driven back axle is not nearly so good and cannot be made into such a strong axle as the bevel gear axle which we at present have, or the double bevel, - this being owing to the peculiar features required to get the worm in. The worm could only go under the axle,(otherwise the floor of the carriage would have to be raised) and when under the axle gets the clearance down from 9½" to 7½". Two inches does not sound very much but it really is a great deal. X141 | ||
