B.60 & B.80 ENGINE PROGRAMMES.

In view of the modifications that are going through based on the experience gained on the first engine, we give you herewith our up-to-date requirements for the above experimental units to be made.

In addition to the list given it should be noted that the "large bore" 3 1/4 B.60 is for the present, "dead", therefore any work that is in progress on this engine should be stopped, likewise any instructions.

It is intended to produce 4 B.60 engines proper and not complete, 6 as originally instructed, likewise 3 B.80 units, 2 with old pattern and one from new pattern.

B.60 ENGINES.

CRANKCASE & BEARINGS.

No.4 UNIT.

Crankcase to suit 2.75 journal crank. In accordance with our memo Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Swdl.{Len H. Swindell}4/MH.{M. Huckerby}5.12.38, we requested the crankcase for this unit not to be machined in the main bearing bores or the centre web thickness. Main bearing caps EB.4393/4/5/6 will necessitate boring with the crankcase for the larger crank.

A detail drawing will be available in several days time from Vandervells for the above job. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Swdl.{Len H. Swindell} will supply bearings (Vandervell).

Do not proceed any further with the remaining two crankcases which can be held as spares.

CRANKSHAFT. No.4 UNIT.

2.75 journal crank to ExS.1278 which otherwise is to EB.4461, and should incorporate Bentley balance weights.

This crank should also include the spring drive SCD.1043.
