-2- EXPERIMENTAL REPORT. Expl. No. 9910/11 REF: Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}2/LG17.7.24. The springs are the same rating as those at present fitted to 107-MG. We have obtained these by taking two plates out of the 25% stronger springs. The deflection per load of these springs is now the same as the standard springs fitted to 107-MG. The rubber buffer will have to be altered to suit. It is intended that these springs shall be tried in order to confirm whether it is the stiffness of the front springs which is causing the complaint. We have also sent a set of 25% stiffer standard springs which can be fitted to 107-MG so that this will enable us to take the Sales model open touring car, and without doing anything else to it, increase the stiffness of the front springs. We expect this to be the most convincing test because it will not be complicated by the extra weight of the front axle or any difference in the mounting of the springs. We are also arranging to have springs made up as suggested in the telephone message we have received from you via London. We are arranging levers to reduce the proportion of front braking. At the moment however, it would appear that the first point to settle is to satisfy Sales on the question of springing and then make the front braking to suit the springing. The tests will be carried on in London during the weekend. We expect we shall have demonstrated to Sales sufficiently for them to have arrived at a decision by Monday.
