BRAKE ADJUSTMENT. 71 & 73 The measurements given on pages 73 & 75 should be ignored in favour of those given hereunder. Rear Brakes. When the cable is operated by hand the movement necessary to apply the brake should be measured at the end of the lever on the axle to which the cable is connected. With the brake off, the ends of these levers rest against the axle tube, and the movement necessary to apply the brake should be such that there is not less than ¾" clearance between the lever end and the axle tube. Adjustment should not be effected until wear has caused this clearance to increase to 1¾". The foregoing measurements apply both to the foot and to the hand brakes. Front Brakes. The movement at the ends of levers Lf 21 (Fig. 22) should never be less than ⅜". Adjustment should not be effected until wear has caused this movement to increase to 1¼".
