1293 Experimental Dept. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Les.16/JH. 27th April, 1937. Messrs. Gordon Armstrong Patent Suspension Co.Ltd., Waltham Works, Beverley, E.Yorks. Dear Mr. Armstrong, Thank you for your letter of the 26th and also for the letter and drawing from Mr. Bogg. For the Phantom III we can accomodate the extended boss and if on any chassis we found that this feature was impossible it would be fairly simple to remove the extension. It would therefore appear to be wisest for all new castings to have this extension. Having strengthened up this damper at various places, I think it would be wise to improve the fixing. I think at least 4 3/8" diameter bolts are necessary. As you will be able to see from the Bentley rear dampers, our normal method of attachment is to sandwich the damper between 2 plates. The width of the casings being 2.400". As it is always easy to remove metal if not required, it might be advisable to have 4 fixing bosses 2.400" wide which would take 7/16" diameter bolts if necessary. The present bolt centres on our dampers are the same as yours namely 4 3/8". Yours sincerely, | ||
