1263 To Ev.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} from Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}1/MH.{M. Huckerby}8.2.40. PETROL TANK. Confirming our discussion yesterday on petrol tanks in general. We agreed to make a tank in which the baffles and stone guard were deleted and in which the air vent pipes are also dispensed with. The tank to be made in some gauge slightly thicker than at present by rolling and stitch welding by finger grooves pressed longitudinally. The small anti-surge tube to prevent the petrol pumps clicking when the tank is nearly empty, to be retained. We are contacting Les.{Ivan A. Leslie} to see if lead coated steel is obtainable in thicknesses less than .036. In any event we can instruct the tank in plain sheet to be rust-proofed outside whilst we are waiting for lead coated sheet. I suggest it might be inadvisable to go less than .028 from both the stiffness and corrosion point of view. Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} | ||
