TEXTILE BELTINGS. BRAKE & CLUTCH LININGS. ASBESTOS GOODS. 1181 Messrs. Rolls-Royce Ltd., DERBY. 13th August, 1937. Dear Sirs, Attention of Mr. A.F. Martindale. We should like to take this opportunity of confirming the various points discussed during the writer's conversation with yourself this morning. We have made up a "Halo III" brake lining containing what we regard to be approximately the maximum possible lead content. This takes the form of a 22s gauge lead wire spun in with the yarn. The resulting liner contains 62% by weight and 17% by volume of metallic lead. We have tested this on our standard types of Inertia Machine at both 400 and 500° Fah. and it shews very stable frictions of the order of .38. Its fade characteristics at the higher temperatures we regard as particularly good. Its wearing qualities are slightly superior to that of non-metallic "Halo" which, we would add, is about average for good quality non-metallic linings. We shall be interested to have your report on this material in due course, and would further add that it will be easily possible for us to make up any further linings you may require having lower lead contents. | ||
