(3) A statement is made that the friction damper shews the characteristics of being elastically connected. I think this is because the engine has six cranks and in consequence my investigations can only apply to it in a rough sort of way. The relations between a viscous-friction damper and solid-friction damper are dealt with in a note which I have just prepared for the printed R.{Sir Henry Royce}& M.{Mr Moon / Mr Moore} edition of E.3039A. In case they should prove of interest I enclose a copy each of this (Note B.) and of Note A.{Mr Adams} which is intended to make the report easier to follow. I have been transferred back to the R.A.F.Establishment as from December 1st, so perhaps you will write to me C/o of the Chief Superintendent when the time is ripe for me to come to Derby again, or if there are any other points in this connection which you may care to raise. Yours faithfully, B C Carter for Director of Scientific Research. Enclosures. Note A & Note B. | ||
