BM. c. to Hs. {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} - X4546 EP {G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} /HS {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} 27/012.10.23. Re. Chassis 68-LK. {L. King} - Holt. ---------------------- An extract from memo' No. 5496, reference St3/IN/ 11.10.23. reads as follows :- "The car is fitted with Dunlop tires on standard "rims. After about 2000 miles had been run the valve of the "tire on one of the back wheels pulled out of the tube. When "the tube was removed the cover was found to have moved round "upon the rim to the extent of about 2". The driver maintains "that at the time of the occurrence the tire was inflated at "60 lbs. The tires are fitted with Dunlop bolt valves, but no "security bolts; and, if the driver's statements, as described "above, are correct, it would appear that the mishap was due to "the absence of security bolts. "In order to be upon the safe side and to avoid "repetition of such an occurrence the tires are now inflated "at 65 lbs. I mentioned to the driver that this pressure was "a good deal more than was desirable with the weight of the "body fitted; but, in view of his experience, I was unable to "insist strongly upon the point." Will you please add this to the list of cars on which trouble has been experienced through tyres blowing off the rims, etc. and convey the facts of this case to the Dunlop Company similarly as you have done in previous instances. Incidentally will you also kindly let us know how this job generally is progressing, as we have 5 or 6 customers to whom we have promised to write further when our investigations in conjunction with the Dunlop Company are completed.
