DAILY REPORT.

Paulin Bentley II.- B-27-LE.

Montlhéry.

Oil changed in gearbox and rear axle and propellor shaft oiled. Engine oiled and car prepared for track. Preliminary tests were disappointing.

Carburetters free, 163.815 KPH. }
no intake fitted. 101.9 MPH. } 6.50 x 17" tyres.
Large air silencer 159.265 KPH. }
98.78 MPH. }

Carburation hopeless with cold air intake, being very weak and cutting out at times.

Rear brakes rubbing due to servo being set too close, insufficient clearance when gearbox hot.

Made O.K. and carburation strengthened up to maximum possible by fitting IM. needles set up inside the pistons I/8" and lowering jets I/8".

With the 6.50 x 19" tyres this setting gave the best speed of 177.097 K.P.H. i.e. 109.98 M.P.H.

The large air silencer was then fitted without filter and LM.8 needles set flush. Three tests taken as follows:-

TYRES. 6.50 x 19 at 45 lbs/sq" Cut-out open 176.416 KPH.
109.67 MPH.

ditto Cut-out closed 173.743 KPH.
107.96 MPH.

6.50 x 17 at 45 lbs/sq" Cut-out open 172.437 KPH.
107.19 MPH.

Maximum 4,200 r.p.m. with 6.50 x 19" tyres
" 4,300 r.p.m. with 6.50 x 17" "

Standard carburetters and system will be fitted to-morrow for comparison.

Rear brakes require attention.

Sr. agrees to use the Dunlop 6.50 x 19" for road work. Would like to compromise on pressures.

R.P.M. under favourable conditions on the autobahn with the IndiaProduction 20 HP. with 4-speed box and Front Wheel Brakes 6.50 x 17 would be too high.
