With reference to your Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}14/KW. 30.6.36., we will issue a Depot Sheet as requested, instructing all Depots to examine these axle control anchorages and take up any wear which is found to be present. We are afraid, however, that this is going to be a pretty big job because our experience is that the rate of wear is rather rapid and we may have to continue to examine all these anchorages indefinitely. We propose to add to your Depot Sheet an instruction to fit a size larger metering plug which is now standard and we presume this will be agreed to. In the meantime we shall be interested to know whether any further alteration to the anchorage is contemplated in order to improve the resistance to wear. We think this is important.
