Dear Mr. Robotham, Thanks for yours of March 5th. Up till just before the outbreak of hostilities we did not find the figure of 70% applicable, but from memory it was more like 90%. As regards giving you a tentative price for this axle in England, I would say that we are all disbanded on the axle proposition, and it is next to impossible to get an estimate, but I would be definite that we could make such axles cheaper than the landed price in this Country. With regard to the connecting rod, I have urged this forward and find actually that it is an experimental matter in that we have an order for 18 samples only, and the steel has been delivered by your Company to make these. As reported to you earlier, we had been counting for this experiment on a new hammer which had some trouble being fitted up to work. I find on enquiry that they are not yet out of their troubles, but as soon as they are, the dies for your rods being completed, the samples will be delivered. | ||
