SECRET. 10/5 To Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} from Ev.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} c. to Ev{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}/HH. Ev.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}9/JH.6.3.40. Semi Floating rear axle. Senior Range. [Handwritten annotation] Attached herewith are two prints of PL.142 which shews schemes for fitting self sealing bearings to the wheel ends of the half shafts. Designs are provided for both the small and large shafts. In the case of the small shaft the diameter under the bearing has been reduced, but an existing shaft can be ground down. In the case of the larger shaft this diameter is not changed but the length of the parallel portion has been extended due to the wider bearing. We regret that this means a new half-shaft, although an existing forging may be used. Enclosed 2 prints of PL.142. 4 copies of memo. [Signature] | ||
