We have been having a good deal of correspondence with Mr.S.Harris, who has been an owner of our cars since pre-war days. He is an enthusiastic owner-driver and a very good friend to the Company.
He has just taken delivery of a 4 1/4, and has on order a Phantom III.

He thinks, however, that we have cheapened our instruments. We have had a good deal of correspondence with him about it, and I enclose copy of letter I addressed to him on February 1st, dealing with the matter generally, and a copy of letter I have now received from him.

I should be glad if you would please give me some technical facts and reasons why we use our present instruments.

On the question of the oscillating needle which appears to annoy him, I believe that he has a friend in the Western Electric Company who is putting him up to this. Is there some instrument which is more expensive that we do not buy; and if so, is it because we do not consider it suitable for the voltage control?

Incidentally Mr. Harris does mix up the instruments on his Bentley with those on the Phantom III to some extent, but apropos of this there is an article in last Friday's "News Chronicle" by Brian Lewis, describing a run back from Monte Carlo he had on a 4 1/4-litre. He says:

"The finish and fittings were beautiful and complete but I thought that for a car of this class the instruments might have been more reliable. We had trouble with some."
