1293 - Experimental Dept. Rm {William Robotham - Chief Engineer} /AFM. {Anthony F. Martindale} 4/MH. {M. Huckerby} 1st. October 1938. Messrs. Luvax Ltd., Warple Way, Acton, LONDON, W.3. Dear Sirs, Luvax Shock Dampers. We would like to try a pair of Luvax piston type shock dampers on the rear of an experimental Bentley. This car has 7" static deflection springs and a total spring movement of 9 1/2". The link load which opens the damping valve would have to be 70 or 80 lbs., the exact load depending on how the damper behaves: we presume it can be adjusted. We understand you generally employ twice as much damping load on rebound as on the bump stroke. We should like to see a drawing of the size of damper that you would assume to be adequate for these conditions. The length and shape of the damper arm depends on how much piston movement is available and can be determined later. We shall be interested in any comments you have to make. Yours faithfully, for ROLLS-ROYCE LTD. | ||
