contd :- -2- out on a 'carriage' type of car as well as the open touring. This is because most of our complaints of springing come from passengers riding in the back of a closed car over the average English roads. To send a heavy car to France, in our opinion, would not help the test. If we take an enclosed type of car and run it at moderate speeds over average roads in England and prove that the riding has not deteriorated by the addition of the hydraulic dampers, we shall have carried out a very useful test. The experimental tests show that in common with other types of damping device the hydraulic dampers can spoil the riding of the car. If this occurs it will be much more apparent under the conditions of running in England than it would be in France. We have no fear whatever for the reliability of the hydraulic dampers. The continuous bumping tests which we have carried out on them have proved this point better than any other tests can do. The Sales Dept. already have in their hands three Phantom cars fitted with hydraulic dampers - 103-MC - 7-LC and 22-MC. We can also fit the dampers to any other car Sales may wish. As we arranged at the Midland Hotel Conference, we are preparing a covered car. This car will not only be fitted with hydraulic dampers but will have the other features which it was arranged at the Conference should be fitted - this includes the new front axle. contd :- | ||
