- 5 - Gearbox & actuating gear, to L.O.P. G.73552. The suspensions of gearbox are still O.K. Gears have remained good, & there has been no tendency for any of the gears to come out of mesh. There is still a slight oil leak from rear of main bearing. Serve & serve link motion. The servo has jaggered slightly on several occasions during earlier part of continuation of run. After readjusting servo & making cams free, the jaggers were only noticeable when very rapid braking was necessary. Otherwise it has functioned O.K. Bearings of link motion are good, & it has operated satisfactorily. Change gear & brake mechanism. Modified change speed mechanism & side levers to L.E.C. 2079, F, Sch. 1970, 1903, 2001 & Arrgt. Drwg. G.73774. This has continued to operate satisfactorily, & no mechanical faults have been found. Gearbox undershield, with felt strip attached, to L.E.C. 2091. This is still in good order, & as previously reported keeps gearbox & servo mechanism free from dirt. Starter Motor. This has functioned quite O.K. Condition of meter is good. Examination of brushes & gear shows them to be clean, starter motor chain is in good condition. It has not been necessary to adjust this. Flywheel & clutch, to L.E.C. 2067. Simplified clutch stop to L.E.C. 2080 & L.O.P. G.73748. During the continuation of the test, we had on one occasion a bad clutch slip. This was after car was started up after it had been standing for some time. We have had no repetition of this. The clutch is smooth in motion & there have been no signs of jaggers. Examination of clutch operating levers finds them to be evenly set. From outside examination there is no indication why clutch should have slipped. It has been found necessary to adjust the clutch stop two holes in the adjustment, as the clutch started to drag when hot. Since the adjustment of the clutch stop, it has been quite O.K. Standard engine fabric coupling. There is a slight bulging out between spiders holding the coupling, but there is no fracture of the fabric. We consider it to be in good condition. Sphere & universal coupling. From outside examination, it appears to be in good condition. The universal coupling has worked satisfactorily. We have not heard any sign of knocks from same. Lightened front axle, G.73975, machined all over. This appears to be still in good condition. | ||
