Re: 40/50 H.P. GEAR LEVER 'C' STEERING.

Some time ago there was a request from Sales to modify the gear lever fitted to 'C' steering Phantoms. This request was to change the length of the lever from being that of the 'D' steering to being that of the 'B' steering and the Standardisation Sheet N No.8430/8311 dated 20.11.26 is headed "Incorporation of 'B' type gear lever on chassis with 'C' steering" and says that the gear lever is to be 3 1/2" longer on 'C' series than at present.

I have just seen blue print F.77442 position of steering 50/50 Rolls-Royce Phantom type, in which not only is the length of the lever of 'C' steering shown as the same as 'B' steering, but its position also has been changed from that of 'D' to that of 'B' which is not what was asked for and which may possibly lead to difficulties.

I am arranging to test immediately several finished cars with 'C' steering in which this alteration has been incorporated and will write further on the matter when I have done so.

CWB.
