With reference to Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}13/ET.21.8.41. re the above it may be recalled that we made a project for fitting the Cotal Gearbox of Wolseley Drawing No.542/166 to the cars of the Senior range, in particular the Rippletto. The scheme is PL.146 (Ev.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}8/JH.12.3.40) and the following design work remains to be carried out - 1. Pedals and clutch operation. 2. Rear engine mounting. 3. Hydraulic master cylinder. 4. Controls from steering column for 1st. speed and reverse. 5. Revised hand brake. 6. Pump and drive for damper control. 7. Larger dynamo. 8. Speedometer drive. The gearbox is Cotal Mk.30 and is in the stores in pieces. It is quoted by the makers as suitable for an input torque of 20.250 m.Kg. or 146.5 lbs.ft. As a rough estimate we put the maximum input torque of the 3½ Litre Ripple as 163 lbs.ft. The box is about right for a 3 Litre engine and would be 11¼% overloaded with the 3½ litre.
