Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/AFM.{Anthony F. Martindale}5/MH.{M. Huckerby} Messrs. The British Belting & Asbestos Ltd., Scandinavia Mills, Cleckheaton. 2nd. October 1937. For the attention of Mr. Sisman. Dear Sirs, The first samples of Halo 3.L (marked 3.Z on the specimens) have been fitted to two 25/30 H.P. R.R. cars. While they are an improvement on the same general type of lining previously tried, they squeak occasionally, a high pitched loud squeak. It occurs to us that if some agent were added to assist the lead on the rubbing surface to break down to a soft powder, this occasional squeak might not occur. Sulphur powder, introduced by carbon disulphide, 4% to 8% by volume, is one possibility that has occurred to us, but you may know something better. We shall be glad to know if you think you could introduce some oxidizing agent, and if you would be willing to make us samples. Yours faithfully, for ROLLS-ROYCE LTD. | ||
