Letter to The Adamant Engineering Co. Ltd. regarding the examination of fractured parts from a Marles gear.

For the attention of Commdr. Matravers. Dear Sirs, We are sending to you under separate cover the following parts of the second 1 7/16 Double Tooth Marles gear which you sent us. (1) Rockershaft. (2) Rockershaft pin and washer. (3) One half of fractured roller follower. (4) Two inner races with retaining clip and 26 balls. Of the two fractured surfaces on the roller the smooth one occurred in service. Our Laboratory have not yet completed their examination of the other half of the roller but from the appearance of the fracture, it appears that the roller is hard throughout. On examination of the various parts will show the following defects :- | ||
