X766 c. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}7/H25.2.24. re. 40/50 and 20-HP. Overheating and Heat from Floorboards etc. With reference to HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}'s report Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}12/LG23.2.24, we are glad to see that this matter is being taken up as we feel quite sure some action will have to be taken both on the 20-HP and 40/50 for overheating troubles now that we are approaching the summer weather. We are already, as explained to Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} previously, having complaints of 20-HP cars overheating, which we are able to confirm can be done even on an ordinary mild day so long as the engine is well 'thrashed' and there is a strong trailing wind, even although the shutters are fully open. The same thing applies to the 40/50 and this feature has recently been complained of by our Trials car drivers. There is also the question of overheating of the floorboards and we take it that the scheme tried out by Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} shall make an improvement in this respect. We shall be glad therefore if you will consider pushing this scheme so that we are at least able to apply this to customers cars in case of complaint. At the same time we are also anxious to be in a position where we can take action on customers cars of which we receive complaints of water boiling. Since writing the above we have a note from Sales bringing two cases to our notice of customers who h ad trouble last year with overheating on the Continent and who are proposing to go to the Continent again shortly and have definitely put it up to Sales that something must be done to prevent this trouble before they go out on this occasion. One of these customers is already fitted up with a smaller fan pulley, but is not yet happy and still contends that overheating is experienced. These two complai are initially water boiling troubles.
