For the attention of Mr. Barker.

Dear Sirs,

We are in receipt of your letter of the 2nd inst., for which we thank you.

Further to the question of finish of the production clutches, we understand that an 11" clutch is being returned to you which is as much as .030" out of round on the outer diameter of the cover. Our production people will no doubt be taking this matter up with you. A further criticism has also been raised in connection with the two prototype clutches sent to us recently. Apparently, in his zeal to have no burrs on the fixing holes in the cover, your operator had countersunk some of the holes to such an extent that a considerable portion of the bearing area for the stud had been lost, despite the fact that we reamed the holes to a larger diameter than the original drilling. You will no doubt take this matter up in the proper quarter.

We are pleased to hear that you are making good progress with a clutch of which the cover is thickened up in the neighbourhood of the slots. We are arranging for an order to be passed for this. If the clutch is not already balanced, we suggest that you weld the balance weights on as discussed on previous occasions, so that we can test both features simultaneously.

Yours faithfully,

FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LIMITED.
