Inspection report on a Crankshaft and Spring Drive assembly.

Crankshaft.

Complete to LOP.EW.913. incorporating :-

An extra and opposite .125 dia. oil hole drilled in each Crankpin, with the existing holes sleeved and redrilled .125 dia.

The Crankshaft EW.912 is produced in nitrided V.C.M. material. All Journals and Pins are in good condition, with the exception of No. 6 Crankpin which is scored by the seizure of No. 6 Big-End.

A slight accumulation of sludge was found in the Crankpin Journals; this, however, is not excessive.

Spring Drive.

Complete to LOP.EW.939, incorporating the following :-

Higher Rated Damping Springs, to Ex.28234.

Spring Retaining Cap to RM.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}402.

Crankshaft Pinion produced to Ex.27115. in S/ZNX material.

Oil groove added to front and rear Bearing Bushes in accordance with Ex.28172/3.

In general condition, this unit is satisfactory.

By the addition of the oil groove in the Bearing Bushes, an improvement in the cotton duck washers has been effected.

The condition of the soft S/ZNX. Crankshaft Pinion Ex.27115, is satisfactory. A slight accumulation of sludge was observed in the Spring Drive; this, however, is not excessive.

Damping load before Test - 15 1/2 lbs.
" " after " - 21 lbs.
Driving " before " - 19 lbs.
" " after " - 22 lbs.

All loads measured at 17 1/2" radius.
