X 295. To R.{Sir Henry Royce} from EFG. c. to GJ. c. to E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} c. to En. c. to Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} c. to Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} EFC2/T8.4.20. X.3555 - R.R. DISTRIBUTION BOARD. X 3760 X.295 - SMITH DYNAMO. The suggested modifications to the R.R. distribution board referred to in our Ck{Mr Clark}2/T17.2.20 are being carried out in Mr. Day's Dept. in connection with the use of the standard Lucas dynamo. Should we, however, decide to use the Smith dynamo, we could do on this board with one less connecting bar on the extreme right and the diagram of the board to suit such a dynamo might then be as shown by the accompanying photostat. This is, of course, diagrammatic only and it is supposed that the cut-out there represented would be of R.R. design. The connections and electrical arrangement of fuses shown are those which we think to be most suitable for the purpose. What we would like to know at the moment is what we shall prepare experimentally for use on the car with a Smith dynamo. We could for instance continue with the instructioning of the R.R. distribution board as arranged with a Lucas cut-out for the Lucas dynamo, and use this in conjunction with the Smith dynamo by leaving one bar out of the circuits, or it might be possible to get ready nearly as quickly a board entirely suited to the Smith dynamo incorporating an R.R. design of cut-out.
