X6148. C. Roy{Sir Henry Royce}/Ms. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Wst.4/MA. October 28th. 1932. Messrs. Chloride Electrical Storage Co. Ltd., Exide Works, Clifton Junction, Nr. Manchester. For the attention of Mr.Mckinnon. Dear Sirs, With reference to your letter of the 25th. inst., ref. ECM/LJ the reason we sent an enquiry to you regarding the material of the 6XMR11-1ML containers was that we have found that these G.E.C. containers have cracked in the inter cell partitions at the top on two other batteries of a similar type we have received from another source of supply, and we are having these changed to "Dagenite". We consider the Richardson container to be an inferior product as compared with "Dagenite" and would much rather have preferred this material for these containers. We should be much obliged if you could inform us when we obtain experimental batteries of this nature what the material of the container is at the time of executing the order. This will help us considerably in judging the performance of the battery. We are not able to ascertain whether these Richardson containers are cracked on the Exide batteries owing to the fact that the tops of the cell partitions are covered with Bitumen, and we should appreciate a line from you as to whether you can guarantee that these containers with the Chloride 6XCMR11-1ML elements fitted will be satisfactory in view of our experience quoted above. Yours faithfully, FOR ROLLS ROYCE LIMITED | ||
