Dear Sirs, With further reference to your letter of the 11th inst. reporting that one of our Hydrolift four-corner jacks, after being tested on a Bentley car in France, was found to leak between the ram outer tube and the body casting, we have now carefully examined the jack which you returned to us and find your remarks to be quite correct. It is difficult to understand how this leak has occurred, but we think that due to the rigid connecting link secured to the outer tube, the body casting has been slacked off this slightly; probably due to considerable side leverage being imposed on this part through the operating lever. All other chassis fittings on the Hydrolift jack, where this is employed in large quantities, are of the swivelling or non-rigid type and it would appear that this joint, as far as your jacks are concerned, must receive more screwing pressure when this is assembled, and this matter will have our careful attention on any other jacks of the type you require. We will return the jack in question to you after the body has been further tightened on to the tube, which will immediately cure the leak. -contd- | ||
