The quality and testing of American hard-drawn wire compared to domestic supply.

- 2 - quite probable the Americans produce hard drawn wire more carefully and accurately than is possible at the moment in this country. This opinion can be easily verified or otherwise by buying some wire from the same people, coiling springs and (a). Making a complete examination of the wire in our Laboratory. (b). Coiling a certain number of springs and running them under our usual test conditions. We have had a certain amount of wire from U.S.A. from time to time, in order to ascertain what they were capable of doing, and our impression was at the time that the carbon wire was a better sample than could be obtained in this country. It was a hard drawn wire similar to Bruntons - by micro examination it was proved to be clear of decarburi-sation, and springs coiled from it were run on an engine for a considerable time without a single case of failure.
