Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Gry{Shadwell Grylls}2/MH.{M. Huckerby}12.9.38. In connection with the Gleason Gears delivered to us by Gleasons on the 6th. May, and returned by Messrs.Gleasons on the 12th. September in accordance with your memos - as you are aware we returned these to Gleasons as defective parts, and we claimed a refund of duty paid when the goods were imported. Our claim for refund of duty was based on the fact that the gears were unsatisfactory and they had not been put to any commercial use. In connection with this claim the Customs are now seeking some further information before they are prepared to refund the duty paid on importation. Attached is copy of letter received from the Customs & Excise Department. Will you please supply the answers to the two questions. The refund of duty depends on the answers which are now made.
