PLEASE QUOTE 47/Ref DSP/PWB 36, Queen Anne's Gate, Westminster. London, S.W.1. October 31st, 1932. SUBJECT. E.W. Hives, Esq., Messrs. Rolls Royce, Ltd., Nightingale Lane, Derby. Dear Mr. Hives: ROLLS ROYCE ENGINES IN CANADA. We have been informed by our associates, the Imperial Oil Company of Canada that 12 Hawker Furys have been ordered for delivery next Spring by the Department of National Defence at Ottawa. Supplies of lubricating oil for the Canadian Dominion Air Force are purchased exclusively from the Imperial Oil Company and are in conformity with the British Government Specification D.T.D.109. This particular oil is known as 'Marvelube A.5.' in Canada. It is manufactured there and is imported by us to this country and delivered by us to R.A.F. Squadrons against the Government Contract for D.T.D.109 Oil. Apart from the use of this oil by Rolls Royce engines in the Squadrons it has not been used in any kind of official test at your Works. Since the question of the suitability of this oil for Rolls Royce engines will probably arise in connection with Canada I wonder if you would care to turn over one of your engines during any type test to this oil. Thanking you in anticipation, Yours faithfully, [Signature] Manager, Technical Dept. | ||
