SS.{S. Smith} VALVE GEAR - DESAXE TAPPETS.

Since the contact runs out to meet the cam is there any need to offset, and would it be possible to tell the difference. I doubt it.

Mr. Bailey's suggestion is good but somehow I don't like it.

Would you like to incline the whole pushrod the amount of the offset? If this is not possible could we incline the lowerpart: it measures about 1 in 100.

I regret that our SS.{S. Smith} would need to be altered from what we have made and tested. It might worry Mr. Wormald, though I feel sure any of the suggestions will work.

This valve gear is even better than we imagined because it concentrates under the lighter load and spreads out when heavily loaded.

Personally I would rather alter so as to submerge in oil if we must alter at all, but I fear this is a big alteration.

Will E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} kindly let me know which will not delay SS.{S. Smith}, and is preferable to those concerned - Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} i.e. what is recommended.

It might pay us to leave SS.{S. Smith} as it is, and make the L.H. SS.{S. Smith}oil submerged if we cannot alter our first SS.{S. Smith} to the same. We could perhaps do so some time in the near future.

Anyway it seems we must not embarrass the work.
